{"id":384,"date":"2016-05-15T00:43:55","date_gmt":"2016-05-15T00:43:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/psychology.news\/news\/?p=384"},"modified":"2016-07-28T10:25:12","modified_gmt":"2016-07-28T10:25:12","slug":"a-step-by-step-guide-to-vandalizing-your-dsm-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychology.news\/news\/2016\/05\/15\/a-step-by-step-guide-to-vandalizing-your-dsm-5\/","title":{"rendered":"A step-by-step guide to Vandalizing your DSM-5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following post is in relation to potential changes to ICD-10-CM for 10\/1\/2016 and note related to any DSM-5 coding updates your printed version of the DSM-5 may need (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dsm5.org\/\">http:\/\/www.dsm5.org\/<\/a> for more on potential coding &#8220;updates&#8221; \/ corrections).<\/p>\n<p>We won&#8217;t officially know until August, 2016, but we pretty much know at this point that some ICD-10-CM codes will be changing for fiscal year 2017. That basically means some new and changed ICD-10-CM codes for 10\/1\/2016.<\/p>\n<p>These aren&#8217;t official yet and don&#8217;t use these codes (at least until after 10\/1\/16), but here is an unofficial idea of what will be coming for 10\/1\/16 (fiscal year 2017) from the mental health perspective.<\/p>\n<p>These are the FY2017 New Released ICD-10-CM-Codes from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/icd\/icd9cm_maintenance.htm\">CDC&#8217;s website.<\/a> You can download a file with the list of likely changes here: <a href=\"ftp:\/\/ftp.cdc.gov\/pub\/Health_Statistics\/NCHS\/Publications\/ICD10CM\/2017\/NewICD10CMCodes_FY2017.txt\">ftp:\/\/ftp.cdc.gov\/pub\/Health_Statistics\/NCHS\/Publications\/ICD10CM\/2017\/NewICD10CMCodes_FY2017.txt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This year there aren&#8217;t going to be that many proposed changes to the ICD-10-CM codes for psychologists to deal with, but they could cause some headaches if you don&#8217;t pay attention. For the disorders beginning with F, here are the likely changes:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pay attention to whether you should be penning something into your DSM-5 (Add) versus whether you are scribbling something out of your copy of the DSM-5 (Delete):<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nF328\tDelete\tOther depressive episodes <em>(see pg. 183 of your DSM-5)<\/em><br \/>\nF3281\tAdd\tPremenstrual dysphoric disorder <em>(see pg. 171 of your DSM-5)<\/em><br \/>\nF3289\tAdd\tOther specified depressive episodes <em>(not currently in your DSM-5)<\/em><br \/>\nF348\tDelete\tOther persistent mood [affective] disorders <em>(see pg. 156 in your DSM-5)<\/em><br \/>\nF3481\tAdd\tDisruptive mood dysregulation disorder<em> (also see pg. 156 in your DSM-5&#8212; DMDD has a new ICD-10-CM code)<\/em><br \/>\nF3489\tAdd\tOther specified persistent mood disorders <em>(the code is not in your DSM-5\/add where you like)<\/em><br \/>\nF422\tAdd\tMixed obsessional thoughts and acts<br \/>\nF423\tAdd\tHoarding disorder <em>(pg 247)<\/em><br \/>\nF424\tAdd\tExcoriation (skin-picking) disorder <em>(see pg. 254)<\/em><br \/>\nF428\tAdd\tOther obsessive compulsive disorder <em>(pg. 263-264)<\/em><br \/>\nF429\tAdd\t&#8220;Obsessive-compulsive disorder, unspecified&#8221; <em>(pg. 263-264)<\/em><br \/>\nF508\tDelete\tOther eating disorders (see pg. 350; 353)<br \/>\nF5081\tAdd\tBinge eating disorder <em>(pg. 350)<\/em><br \/>\nF5089\tAdd\tOther specified eating disorder (pg. 353-354)<br \/>\nF640\tAdd\tTranssexualism (code not in your DSM-5)<br \/>\nF641\tRevise from\tGender identity disorder in adolescence and adulthood (pg. 452)<br \/>\nF641\tRevise to\tDual role transvestism (pg. 452)<br \/>\nF8082\tAdd\tSocial pragmatic communication disorder (see pg. 47)<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is just an early look and you don&#8217;t need to worry about this until 10\/1\/2016; I&#8217;ll have a more detailed update for you by then.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychicdcodes.com\/\">check this out if you want to see all the ICD-10-CM codes relevant to psychologists<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/feedburner.google.com\/fb\/a\/mailverify?uri=PsychologyDotNews&#038;loc=en_US\">Have you subscribed to get Psychology.news posts delivered right to your email inbox?
