{"id":863,"date":"2019-11-05T20:57:47","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T01:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/psychology.news\/news\/?p=863"},"modified":"2019-11-05T20:57:47","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T01:57:47","slug":"apa-hired-pollsters-again-for-more-stress-in-america-pseudoscience-on-election-day-stressinamerica-stressapa-psychology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychology.news\/news\/2019\/11\/05\/apa-hired-pollsters-again-for-more-stress-in-america-pseudoscience-on-election-day-stressinamerica-stressapa-psychology\/","title":{"rendered":"APA Hired Pollsters Again for more Stress in America Pseudoscience on election day #StressinAmerica #StressAPA #Psychology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just in time for election day&#8211; on election day&#8211; your friendly neighborhood &#8220;scientific&#8221; organization the American Psychological Association has released the latest iteration of the Stress in America survey literally titled, and I am not making this up, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/news\/press\/releases\/stress\/\">Stress in America 2019:<\/a> <em>Stress over election, health care and mass shootings<\/em> (Nov. 5, 2019)&#8221; They note &#8220;A year before the 2020 presidential election, Americans report various issues in the news as significant sources of stress, including health care, mass shootings and the upcoming election, according to this year\u2019s Stress in America\u2122 survey by the American Psychological Association.&#8221; It is funny because their stressors often echo the political issues they want to talk about (instead of psychology, frankly).<\/p>\n<p>This, &#8220;science,&#8221; released to the media on election day and reviewed and put together by the public relations professionals at the American Psychological Association reminds me of a <a href=\"https:\/\/psychology.news\/news\/2016\/03\/10\/is-it-time-to-re-envision-apas-stress-in-america-survey-stressapa\/\">past critical blog post I wrote<\/a> that included the question:\u00a0<strong>Do scientific associations really need to commission<\/strong> <strong>polls?<\/strong>\u00a0How do you prefer your science\/pseudoscience- served up by public relations professionals and pollsters or actually <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">peer reviewed<\/span>?
